What is Youth Group
Youth Group (aka Youth Ministry) is an age-specific religious organization that engages teens in fellowship with the community, stewardship, discipleship and spiritual growth. Youth Ministry is an effort by Christian communities to reach out to the youth with the love of God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Youth Ministry wants to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person and seeks to draw teens into active, responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic Faith and Church.
GOALS OF CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUPS
Goal #1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
Goal #2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
Goal #3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
Challenges in youth ministry
Challenge #1: Our society and culture neglect youth and their well-being. It prioritizes false images of success and wealth rather than the well-being of youth. Our challenge is to show youth the fullness a life of Catholic Christian discipleship and success entails.
Challenge #2: Our youth do not always receive proper developmental assistance from families, schools and yes, even their churches. Our challenge is to help families, schools, and other communities promote healthy living standards so our youth can grow into responsible, successful adults.
Challenge #3: Leaders and parishes must incorporate contemporary approaches to youth ministry, modernizing ineffective methods and establishing a foundation for growth. Our challenge is to discover how youth can live out the gospel message in their daily lives.
REASON #1: t is fun and opens up many roads to new adventures and experiences.
WHY YOUTH GROUP
REASON #2: Advances personal and interpersonal skills
REASON #3: Evolves self-confidence and self-esteem
REASON #4: Cultivates a lifelong plan and strategy for dealing with life’s successes, failures, and problems
REASON #5: A safe haven where today’s youth can relax, connect w/friends and take a break from the unprecedented pressures of today’s society.
REASON #6: Establish a healthy, positive lifelong relationship with oneself, the community, Holy Scripture and Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.
REASON #7: A place where teens can safely feel acknowledged, important and loved.
REASON #8: An area to challenge a teen’s instinctive need for mission and purpose and to ignite this in a positive and productive direction.
REASON #9: To establish a lifelong Catholic theology and tradition to assist our youth in dealing with life’s up and downs.
REASON #10: To provide answers to today’s problems with a strong, CLEAR, moral direction.
Families and adults OF ALL AGES have a place within our ministry as team leaders, chaperones: behind the scenes helping in planning, decorating and social media assistance. Grow in faith and have an impact as you build and strengthen the future of our youth, our parish, our community, and our world.
To promote the faith growth of families by encouraging families to share, celebrate, and live their faith at home. We strive to empower teens to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today and to guide young people in their call to holiness by meeting Jesus Christ in the Scriptures, in the life and teachings of the Catholic Church, and in their own prayer lives. Our hope is to promote a positive self-image in young people, including an appreciation of one’s ethnic culture, a sense of one’s self as lovable and loved by God and others. We want to cultivate the gifts and talents of young people and their families by providing a variety of avenues through which teens, with their families, can personally encounter Jesus Christ and grow in fellowship with one another by intergenerational activities, service opportunities, and social events while at the same time incorporating them as active and equal members of the entire Body Of Christ – a body which spans the generations.

“The most effective catechetical program for adolescents are integrated into a comprehensive program of pastoral ministry for youth that includes catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, and prayer and worship. Such programs aim to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today; to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community; and to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.”
